Las Vegas Day 5

On Monday, as usual we were up bright and early.  Our plan for today was to go and visit Hoover Dam.  Craig went and brought us back some muffins and juice for breakfast and we were ready to roll.  By about 9 we were on the road.  It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get out to the Dam.  I love the view of Lake Mead as you're driving through.

We got ourselves parked and were ready to explore the Dam.  Both Craig and I had been before, but not together, and it's a pretty cool place to visit.  The kids recognize the Dam from the transformers movie.  I'd say they were hopeful of meeting any transformers there, it might have made it a little more exciting for them.

Arizona doesn't observe daylight savings time, so when you visit in the spring or summer, there's a one hour time difference between the two states.  Since we visited in Autumn, they were on the same time.

This plaque marks the border line between Arizona and Nevada.

So in this picture, Hunter is in Nevada and Craig and Kenzie are in Arizona.

Kingston and I are in the street trying not to be run over.

haha, just kidding!

Or am I?

We had a look around and took some more pictures.  It was pretty warm out there that day.  For some reason, the skies over the Hoover Dam are always a perfect blue.  It makes for some pretty pictures.

This is one of my favourite pictures, I just LOVE it.

It's so typical -  Kenzie not wanting to walk and Craig having to carry her!

And just to prove that YES, Kingston and I were there too.

I love the colour of the water too.

As we walked around the side, we saw little chipmunks running around.  They were really cute, and the kids got all excited.  We don't have those in New Zealand.  They were slowly creeping up to them and trying to pet them.  Then this guy in uniform came over, he looked like a ranger of some type, and he had some muesli bars and crackers in his pocket that he shared with the kids, and they fed the chipmunks.  It made their day.

Kingy got involved too, he loved the chipmunks.

So after the chipmunks had been fed, and we'd looked around, it was time to head back to Las Vegas.  We were going to meet my mum and dad for lunch at the MGM Grand.  But first Craig wanted to get a souvenir.  He got an American flag that had been previously flown over the dam, it was in a nice wooden display case.  So he was happy, and we were off.

I really liked this sculpture they had by the gift store.
